Viscounts of the West Kingdom board game is coming to Kickstarter very soon

Vying for power.

Publisher Garphill Games has announced via Facebook that Viscounts of the West Kingdom, the next board game from the creators of Raiders of the North Sea, will be launching on Kickstarter next month.

The West Kingdom trilogy began with Architects of the West Kingdom, designed by Shem Phillips and S J Macdonald and released by Renegade Games Studios and Garphill Games in 2018. A board game for one to five players, Architects of the West Kingdom sees everyone competing to gain the monarch’s favour by constructing the most impressive buildings they can.

Paladins of the West Kingdom, also designed by Phillips and Macdonald, came out a year later in 2019 and focused on recruiting knights and tackling medieval warfare.

This third board game in the series takes place 80 years after Paladins of the West Kingdom, and looks to centre around the king’s quest for peace. A board game for one to four players, Viscounts of the West Kingdom sees players gathering power through constructing buildings, acquiring land, creating manuscripts and working alongside the king.

However, despite their loyalty to the monarchy, players will also be travelling across the land in search of personal power - looking to increase their influence amongst important areas of society - until eventually the kingdom achieves ultimate prosperity, poverty or a mixture of the two.

The winner of Viscounts of the West Kingdom is whoever successfully collects the most victory points by the end of the game.

Launching alongside Viscounts of the West Kingdom will be an expansion called Tomesaga, which - according to Garphill Games - will contain a campaign tying all three board games in the West Kingdom trilogy together.

Co-designer Shem Phillips is also responsible for Viking-themed board game Shipwrights of the North Sea, which started a trilogy that included beginner board game Raiders of the North Sea, and a final entry called Explorers of the North Sea.

The North Sea and West Kingdom trilogies are both published by Renegade Game Studios - the company behind the Clank! Series, dexterity board game Flip Ships and two-player board game The Fox in the Forest - and Garphill Games, which created horror board game Bethel Woods. (Which was also designed by Shem Phillips.)

The Kickstarter campaign for both Viscounts of the West Kingdom and Tomesaga will launch on March 3rd.
