Dice Hospital co-designer’s next game is a icy trek through prehistoric North America
A tundra of fun.
Guide the development of ancient North American tribes across several generations in Endless Winter: Paleoamericans, the latest board game by Stan Kordonskiy - the co-creator of Dice Hospital.
Set in 10,000 BCE, Endless Winter follows a gathering of tribes living in prehistoric North America. Beginning as nomadic hunters, throughout the course of the game these tribes will form into collective societies with their own structures and developments. A worker-placement game for one to four players, Endless Winter sees players managing their own tribe as they perform various actions across the game board. Players will be looking to migrate their tribes across the icefields so that they can gather resources and find a suitable location to start building.
Each turn players can choose to place one of their figures onto an action column of their choice. Depending on which column a player uses, they can perform multiple actions within a set sequence, as long as they can afford to pay the food and labour costs those actions require. Food and labour costs can be paid using cards, with players needing to manage their hand every round to ensure that they have enough cards left at the end. Any cards player’s have kept aside until the end of the round can be compared with their opponents' to see who has the most power and - therefore- who gets to go first in the next round.
As a deckbuilding game, players will be able to acquire new cards that they can use in combination with others in their hand to gain an advantage. For example, players can choose to play culture cards to acquire various benefits, such as additional food or labour to use during their turn. Players can also gain eclipse benefits at the end of each round - potentially boosting their overall score above their opponents.
Whichever player has the most points by the end of the game is named the winner.
Apart from co-designing Dice Hospital, Kordonskiy has also created games such as Lockup: A Roll Player Tale - a fantasy inspired board game about escaping prison as a band of Dragul - as well as the resource management board game Rurik: Dawn of Kiev. Endless Winter is the debut from publisher Fantasia Games, which is also set to release several expansions for the title in the near future.
The Kickstarter campaign for Endless Winter: Paleoamericans is live until November 17th, with a pledge of €50 (£46) getting backers a copy of the core game that’s set to arrive in December 2021.
