Lead a rebellion on two fronts in tough fantasy board game Uprising: Curse of the Last Emperor

Prepare to dice.

Choose a faction to end the Empire’s reign and liberate themselves from chaos in Uprising: Curse of the Last Emperor, a miniatures board game with a steep difficulty curve.

Uprising: Curse of the Last Emperor is an upcoming game set in the Isles of Azuhl, where a corrupt leadership called the Empire unjustly controls the lives of its citizens. That Empire is now crumbling - it will take the efforts of the last remaining pockets of civilisation to finally bring it to an end and free themselves. As leaders of these factions - the Khrow, Duerkhar, Druwhn or Mohyar - players will need to work together to fight against the remaining forces of the Empire and liberate their peoples.

But it’s not just the Empire soldiers that players will have to face, as the Hordes of Chaos are also on the march - presenting yet another army to defeat and an even greater challenge for players to conquer.

A co-op game for one to four players, Uprising provides a customisable difficulty system where players can choose the number of events and the challenge those events present. Uprising even offers a gruelling ‘apocalyptic’ difficulty setting that’s specifically intended to only be played by experienced players. Designed to stack the deck against its challengers, Uprising contains two different sets of enemies to fight - the Empire forces and Hordes of Chaos - who will attempt to thwart the players’ efforts throughout the game.

As each chapter passes, both player factions and the enemy forces will be awarded victory points for achieving various goals - such as winning combat rounds, building structures and completing quests - with players needed to individually acquire more victory points than both the Empire forces and the Hordes of Chaos combined in order to win.

The game board for Uprising comprises various hexes that must be explored before they can be entered by units, with some having unique effects - such as causing skeletons to rise from the earth or enemy garrisons to appear. Other hexes can contain resources that players can use to build walls and towers to protect their faction’s people and grant them precious victory points.

At some point in their exploration, player units are bound to come into contact with those of the enemy. During combat, players must roll a set of hero dice matching their character’s attributes, with the aim being to whittle down the health of any enemy units within the same hex before they overwhelm the hero.

Should the players survive each event phase of every chapter and manage to gather more victory points than the two enemy armies, then they are collectively victorious - otherwise, the players lose the game together.

Uprising: Curse of the Last Emperor was designed by Cornelius Cremin, Pawel Mazur and Dirk Sommer, the founders of the game’s publisher - Nemesis Games - with Uprising being its debut title.

The Kickstarter campaign for Uprising: Curse of the Last Emperor is live until September 10th, with a pledge of $79 (£60) getting backers a copy of the core game estimated to arrive in August 2021.
