A third game in the Undaunted deckbuilding series is on its way

Could be set in either the Pacific Theatre or Eastern Front.

Undaunted co-creators, David Thompson and Trever Benjamin, have revealed that there is another entry in the deckbuilding series currently in development.

The news was unveiled during an interview with the co-designers for Aw Shux 2021 - an online convention hosted by the tabletop YouTube channel Shut Up and Sit Down - discussing the upcoming expansion Undaunted: Reinforcements. Towards the end of the interview, which was hosted by Emily Neat, a representative from Osprey Games - the publisher responsible for releasing the Undaunted series - Thompson and Benjamin were asked what was next for the deckbuilding game franchise.

After jokingly replying “There is no more Undaunted,”, Thompson then revealed that Benjamin and themselves had been collaborating together on a new entry for the series. “It [the new Undaunted game] is all that I and Trever have been working on for the last year and a half.” Thompson confirmed. Admitting that they couldn’t say too much about the upcoming board game, Thompson did tease that the Undaunted entry will be “super, super big,”, with Benjamin adding that “it’s a beast.”

“Obviously we can’t talk about the theme.” Said Thompson, “But I can tell you that the most commonly requested themes for Undaunted, by far, are the Pacific Theatre and the Eastern Front or Stalingrad.”

They did not confirm whether the next Undaunted title would use either of these suggested themes, with both Thompson and Benjamin refusing to reveal any more details about the upcoming game.

The Undaunted series began with the release of Undaunted: Normandy in 2019, a two-player board game set during the pivotal World War II event of the D-Day Landings, wherein Allied forces attempted to regain land across German occupied France. In the game, one player takes control of the Allied forces, whilst the other commands the German units, with both players attempting to complete their own objectives. Players then use their individual decks to move units around the board, attacking enemy soldiers and recovering from their own losses.

Last year, a direct sequel was released called Undaunted: North Africa, which shifted the setting to the conflict taking place between the British Long Range Desert Group and Italian Axis forces in a pre-World War II North Africa. Another two-player deckbuilding game, in his review of Undaunted: North Africa, Matt praised the game for making each playable army feel distinct from one another - “Each side has unique units and powers that reflect their differing positions in the theatre of war.”

Undaunted: Reinforcements, the first expansion for the series, was revealed in July 2020 as adding new units and scenarios for players to experience alongside either Normany or North Africa. Besides the missions and units, Reinforcements will also be introducing a solo game mode to the series designed by Anachrony creator Dávid Turczi. Reinforcements is set to be released in August.

Osprey Games has yet to confirm an official title or release date for the next title in the Undaunted series.
