You can play an adventure from the new Critical Role Dungeons & Dragons 5E book for free on Roll20

An adventure from the first Critical Role Dungeons & Dragons 5E sourcebook, Explorer’s Guide to Wildemount, has been released for free on the online roleplaying platform Roll20.

Entitled Frozen Sick, the D&D 5E adventure sees players exploring the most northern reaches of the land of Wildemount in search of a cure for an explorer called Urgon Wenth, after a strange malady has turned him into an ice statue. Now that several citizens of a village called Palebank have also frozen solid, the community leader has tasked the adventuring party with solving the mysterious illness - at the risk of getting infected themselves.

This adventure is one of four included in the recently released Explorer’s Guide to Wildemount Dungeons & Dragons 5E sourcebook, and is currently the only free module from the book available on Roll20. The others are titled Tide of Retribution, Dangerous Designs and Unwelcome Spirits.

Roll20 is a tabletop gaming app designed to help roleplayers run and play RPGs online, with the option to purchase rulebooks and other resources to include in their sessions. Features include map editing, voice chat, character sheets and other tools for GMs and players to use to play some of the best tabletop roleplaying games out there, such as Dungeons & Dragons 5E, Pathfinder 2E and Call of Cthulhu.

Explorer’s Guide to Wildemount is one of the best sourcebooks for Dungeons & Dragons 5E available right now, including locations, monsters, deities and other lore elements from the popular actual play video series Critical Role that enable players to create and play their own adventures in the world of Wildemount.

Critical Role is hosted by a team of voice actors including DM Matt Mercer - who plays McCree in the video game Overwatch - as well as Laura Bailey, Liam O’Brian, Sam Riegal, Travis Willingham and Talesin Jaffe. Now on its second season, the show follows the adventures of the Mighty Nien as they travel across the Dwendalian Empire, the Kryn Dynasty and beyond. The first season followed a party known as Vox Machina and wrapped up in late 2017 after five years.

Publishers USAopoly and Steve Jackson Games recently revealed the very first board game based on the actual play video series, Munchkin: Critical Role, with plans for more Critical Role board games currently in development.

Frozen Sick is available to play on Roll20, with the full Explorer’s Guide to Wildemount D&D 5E sourcebook costing $49.95 (£41) to download and use with the tabletop app.
