Pandemic Legacy: Season 0 has been given a release date and price, with the third - and final - entry in the acclaimed legacy game series arriving on tables in just over a month.

The game formerly known as Pandemic Legacy: Season 3 was fully unveiled earlier this year, revealing it as a prequel set during the Cold War in which players control CIA rookies racing to uncover a Soviet bioweapon while also hunting down a rogue agent.

Pandemic Legacy: Season 0 introduces some new gameplay elements to the original co-op game’s foundation too, with players forming teams who can assist them as they gather intelligence and complete various missions.

Unlike most of the previous Pandemic games, there are no disease cubes on the board at the beginning of the 12-month campaign, replaced by Soviet agents who can blow a player character’s cover if they linger in cities under surveillance. Each player has multiple aliases with unique abilities and disguises, recorded in the game’s real-life leatherette passports.

Co-designers Matt Leacock and Rob Daviau have confirmed that Season 0 will be the last Pandemic Legacy game, telling Dicebreaker earlier this year that they approached the prequel as the definitive end to a planned trilogy and story. (They also mentioned that the game almost veered closer in tone to a “sixties Bond film”.)

In our spoiler-free review of Season 0, I found it to be a fitting end to the series, offering the most consistent gameplay and accomplished storytelling of any Pandemic Legacy game to date - making it one of the best narrative experiences I’ve had in any board game as a result.

While Pandemic publisher Z-Man Games initially announced Season 0 as being set for release sometime later in 2020, its parent company Asmodee has now confirmed a US release date for the upcoming board game to Dicebreaker.

Pandemic Legacy: Season 0 will see a release on October 23rd, with a US RRP of $79.99 (£62) - putting it in line with the price of the previous two seasons. Specific release dates and prices for other countries are yet to be confirmed.

Matt Leacock and Rob Daviau recently took to the virtual stage at this year's PAX Online x EGX Digital - which is organised by Dicebreaker owner ReedPop - to offer a beginner's guide to Pandemic Legacy, which you can catch below.
