Fallout: Wasteland Warfare’s next expansion lets AI characters hunt for food and go on quests

No time wasted.

Players can now interact with non-hostile AI units with Into the Wasteland, an upcoming expansion for miniatures game Fallout: Wasteland Warfare.

Into the Wasteland offers players the opportunity to explore the world of Fallout: Wasteland Warfare without the usual rigid structure of fighting against a team of opposing units. A blog post from publisher Modiphius explains that Into the Wasteland will enable players to interact with AI-controlled units that aren’t just sitting around waiting to attack passing player characters. Whereas most scenarios in Wasteland Warfare feature players encountering a predetermined enemy faction, Into the Wasteland will have AI units pursuing their own objectives around those of the players.

The Wasteland Scenarios section of the expansion will provide players with their own objectives to pursue - whether that’s scavenging, scouting, travelling or something else - that they can work towards by exploring different parts of the game’s world. Along the way, players might come across a band of Super Mutants searching for weapons to recover from some ruins or a herd of brahmin (otherwise known as mutant cows) grazing on a patch of grass. Using the Habitat section of the expansion, players will be able to give purpose and behaviours to the different AI units they encounter that fit in with their natures.

Into the Wasteland also comes with several new unit cards for various creatures - including hostile, neutral and legendary units - and a brand new campaign that has players racing across the Wasteland in order to rescue some allies in trouble. The expansion is suitable for both co-op games between multiple players and solo players.

Fallout: Wasteland Warfare is a miniatures game based on the roleplaying video game series, Fallout, that has players either going head-to-head in a battle between warring factions or facing off against teams of AI opponents. Players can embark on entire story-driven campaigns that take their units across the Wasteland in order to complete various missions.

Besides Wasteland Warfare and Into the Wasteland, Modiphius is responsible for releasing the roleplaying expansion for the miniatures game, as well as Dishonored: The Roleplaying Game - another tabletop adaptation of a popular video game franchise - and upcoming RPG Dune: Adventures in the Imperium.

Into the Wasteland is set to be released November 13th, with players able to acquire the expansion in a downloadable print-and-play form. Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, Modiphius is only releasing the expansion in digital form.
